Police in Pampierstad in the Northern Cape are investigating a case of murder following a ghastly discovery of a body in the veld.

In the early hours of Sunday 13 September, the police were called to a scene where a beheaded body of an 18-year-old boy was found dumped in a water pipe just outside town.

“A preliminary investigation led the police to a shanty where the head was found hidden under a bed. A 16-year-old boy is arrested and expected to appear before Pampierstad Magistrates Court on 16 September 2020 [Wednesday],” police said in a statement.

“It is not clear at this stage as to what led to this gruesome act,” police added.

Police in the Northern Cape request that anyone who may have further information about this incident to please contact the Station Commander on 082-822-3077 or the Crime stop line 08600 10111. All information received will be treated as confidential. In a separate incident to the one in the Northern Cape, a 25-year-old man appeared in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mmabatho in the North West on Monday 14 September for the alleged possession of his mother’s decapitated head.

The suspect’s court appearance follows his arrest on Saturday evening, 12 September 2020, at Montshiwastad village, Mahikeng, after members of the Flying Squad acted on a tip-off about a suspect who allegedly killed his mother and was carrying her head in a bag.

“During the search, indeed a human head was found inside the bag,” said SAPS Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

“The suspect allegedly admitted to killing his mother on Monday 7 September 2020, in Hercules, Pretoria. As a result, he was arrested. The suspect will after [his] court appearance today [Monday], be transferred to Pretoria to face a charge of murder,” added Mokgwabone.

Provincial Commissioner of the North West Lieutenant General Sello Kwena applauded the members for their quick response which resulted in the gruesome discovery and the arrest of the suspect. The motive of the incident is unknown and an investigation into the matter is underway. Protection Status
