Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Simba Arati had an egg thrown to his face after an agenda he attempted to propagate went south.
While presenting his constituents with bursaries, the ODM legislator who is a harsh critic of Deputy President William Ruto, offered a reward for any member of the public who would correctly answer his question.
In the video seen by Kenyans.co.ke Arati asks, “Who is the biggest thief in the country?”
The first respondent, a young boy, boldly pronounces, “Waititu”. Arati laughs him off, then goes on to allege that the former Kiambu governor could not be the number one thief in the country, “There is a bigger one,” the lawmaker remarks.
“Jubilee party,” the second respondent answers.
Arati dismisses the response as wrong calling forth a young student to the test. He reiterates on whether the people are really aware of who the biggest thief in the country.
“Let me get it from this young lad. Do you know who it is?” Arati poses. Much to his surprise, the answer he gets is apparently not to his expectations. “Mike Sonko,” the student boldly answers. The ODM lawmaker awards him with money for coming close to the answer.
The video took social media by storm with netizens castigating the Dagoretti North legislator on several fronts, most notably, how he would even indulge a high school student in the conversation.
A majority ridiculed Arati for how a narrative he was allegedly propagating on DP Ruto had been downplayed, and particularly, by members of the public from his constituency.
“Surely what’s this man teaching the youth,” Njoroge Mwangi Mutethi posed. “So Arati can stoop this low? Using even a teenager in the process?” David Limo added.
“He gave out 1000 to a child for teaching him nothing. So bad,” Maurice Kamau opined, further adding to an argument that the legislator had his priorities all wrong.
Irate Kenyans called out Arati for referencing a man on crutches as a drunkard, noting it was wrong for anyone to do that, even defamatory.
“Simba Arati you were expecting an obvious answer to the person whom you were thinking shame on you!” Ezekiel Kirui pronounced.
“What is he doing now? And then you call yourself honourable. This is very disappointing and dishonourable,” a user by the moniker JKyme stated, adding to the disappointment in pronouncements by the MP.
