A statement on Tuesday by Colonel Sagir Musa, Acting Director Army Public Relations, was silent on the identity of the Commander.
Musa explained that the accident occurred when the Commander’s vehicles went to refuel.
He disclosed that mishap caused the death of a road user – 75-year-old Salisu Ibrahim of Filin Samji, Katsina.
The statement noted that the deceased had been riding a motorcycle.
“A delegation of the Nigerian Army led by the Brigade commander has visited the family to commiserate with them and will be fully involved in the burial”, Musa added.
It is unclear why the Army withheld the senior officer’s name.
However, DAILY POST findings revealed the identity of the officer. He is Brigadier General Wama B. Idris.
On June 23, he handed over to civilians kidnapped by bandits in Musa LGA in Katsina to Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mustapha Inuwa.
Idris was represented by Major Olabode Adedayo.
He said the six victims were freed after a gun duel with the abductors at a forest between Danmusa and Safana.
Our findings also show that Idris took over as 17 Brigade Commander from Brigadier General Aminu Bande on September 10, 2019.
