Orange Democratic Movement youth in Jomvu, Mombasa staged protests against their Member of Parliament Bado Twalib on Friday, July 24, demanding an apology from the legislator.
Twalib was accused of undermining the party and disrespecting ODM leaders, with the youth alleging that he insulted ODM’s Coast officials.
ODM ejected him from Chairmanship position in his constituency on July 14 after he declared allegiance for Deputy President William Ruto.
“Elected leaders should respect our party. We are tired of seeing politicians use our party to ascend to power then jump ship and declare support for our rivals. We, grassroots leaders also have to be respected as we are the ones responsible for marshalling votes and wooing residents to support the party,” ODM youth representative in Jomvu, Joseph Ouma Ojung lamented.
They also accused the party of frustrating their efforts to elect leaders of their own choice.
The youth urged ODM leader Raila Odinga to incorporate them more in party politics, more so during nominations as they had sacrificed and supported the party to all lengths. The youth argued that some leaders picked by the party end up decamping.
Twalib was replaced by Mikindani ward Member of the County Assembly Renson Juma Thoya who took over in an acting capacity.
The MP publicly declared support for DP Ruto after he was also kicked out of the Budget and Appropriations Committee when National Super Alliance (NASA) Parliament purge was effected on May 28.
“If my relationship with DP Ruto is why I have been de-whipped, then I respect the decision. Junet Mohamed has just done his job,” Twalib stated.
Rebel MPs Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini) were also ejected from Parliamentary Committees.
