An elderly citizen is fighting for his life on Wednesday after his car plummeted down the side of a mountain in Gordon’s Bay near Cape Town. The vehicle was badly mangled in the incident, but the patient is now receiving hospital treatment for critical injuries. Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 10:00.

A daring rescue operation took place in Mountainside, near the Steenbras dam. Gordon’s Bay is one of the most well-frequented locations in False Bay, and its scenic drives are the stuff of local legend. However, this particular motorist endured a nightmare journey, flipping his car and eventually coming to a halt midway down the steep hill.
Cape Town EMS teams battle to save driver’s life
Both fire services and emergency crews arrived at the scene first, with ER24 amongst the early responders. They administered life support to the as-yet-unnamed-male and were able to get him to the roadside for further treatment. In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, the medical team confirmed their victim had somehow survived the crash:
“A man, believed to be in his 60s, was left critically injured this morning when his vehicle crashed down the mountain near Steenbras Dam in Mountainside in Gordons Bay. At approximately 10:00, ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the Western Cape Fire and Gordons Bay EMS already in attendance.”
“Both services made their way down to the vehicle and extricated the patient. Once the man had been brought to the roadside, medics assessed the man and found he was in a critical condition, having sustained several serious injuries.”
“The man was provided with advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a nearby hospital for further care. The full details of this incident are not yet known. Local authorities are on the scene for further investigations.”
