EU yaitaka Marekani kusitisha hukumu ya kifo


 Jumuiya ya Ulaya (EU) imetoa wito kwa serikali ya Marekani kusitisha utekelezaji wa hukumu ya kifo ya unyongaji iliyoanzishwa tena kufuatia uamuzi uliochukuliwa. 

Peter Stano ambaye ni Msemaji wa Kamati ya EU, alitoa maelezo kuhusu suala hilo na kubainisha hofu waliyokuwa nayo dhidi ya serikali ya Marekani kwa kuanza tena kutekeleza hukumu ya kifo ya unyongaji kufuatia uamuzi uliochukuliwa baada ya takriban miaka 20.

Akisisitiza kuwa EU inapinga vikali hukumu ya kifo, Stano alisema kwamba unyongaji ni hukumu ya kikatili inayokiuka haki za kibinadamu, na haiwezi kusawazisha makosa ya mtuhumiwa baada ya utekelezaji. 

Stano alisema,

“EU inatoa wito kwa serikali ya Marekani kuondoa uamuzi huo na kusitisha hukumu zote za kifo za unyongaji zilizotolewa na ngazi za juu.” 

Stano pia alifahamisha kuwa hukumu nyingi za kifo zilizotekelezwa na serikali ya Marekani ya ngazi za juu zinatofautiana na hukumu za serikali za majimbo na dunia nzima kwa ujumla.

Baada ya uamuzi kuhusu hukumu ya kifo kuchukuliwa tena mwezi Julai, serikali ya Marekani ilitekeleza hukumu hiyo na watu 8 wakanyongwa.
