Police Boss & Driver Shot Dead

-

  • A Chief Inspector in charge of the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Kapedo and his driver were on Thursday evening, January 22, shot dead at Ameyan bridge in Tiaty constituency, Baringo County.

Their demise was confirmed by Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya who indicated that they were ambushed while on their way to Kapedo trading center to join the team of multi-agency security personnel.

The team has been carrying out a massive operation following the killing of senior General Service Unit (GSU) Emadau Tebakol on Saturday last week.

“They were returning from a funeral of the Chief Inspector’s mother and were on their way back to camp,” Natembeya said.

Their death came just a day after six bodies were found dumped in a remote village in Baringo County.

The bodies, which were found in Arabal, are believed to have been executed elsewhere before being dumped in the area.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has since warned that operations in the area would proceed until individuals propagating the banditry attacks are accosted.

“We are going to act decisively. We are going to make sure that those involved are facilitated to meet with the law. By the time we are done, it will be a story to be told to the generations to come,” Matiang’i warned.

Yesterday, Tiaty MP William Kamket was arrested for allegedly inciting the killings in the area.

The KANU lawmaker was apprehended by detectives and detained at Kileleshwa Police Station.

Kamket, who was released in the evening on a free bond, told the media that he had been arrested for a murder that occurred back in 2014.
