SK Macharia Makes Special Presence During BBI Vote

  • Royal Media Services (RMS) Chairman Samuel Kamau Macharia on Tuesday, February 23 made a special presence at a sitting where the Kiambu County Assembly is expected to vote on the Building Bridges Referendum (BBI) Referendum Bill 2020. 

    Before the BBI voting process began in the assembly, the Kiambu county speaker Stephen Ndichu recognized SK’s presence and that of various dignitaries allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta. 

    President Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal assistant Kamau Migwi. was also in attendance ahead of the highly awaited decision.

    Other prominent guests who graced the proceedings included Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, his deputy Joyce Wanjiku Ngugi, Principal Secretary for the state Department of Energy Joseph Njoroge, Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga, and evangelist David Kariuki Ngari alias Gakuyo.

    “SK Macharia is an old friend of mine as we came from the same district, so Mr. Chairman, welcome.

    “Macharia called me and told me he’s going to send five cameras and we’re going to be covered live and Mr Chairman we recognize that gesture,” Ndichu stated much to the applause of the members.

    Kiambu MCAs are currently debating the BBI Bill on a day deemed to be Super Tuesday by ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

    Counties such as Murang’a, Bungoma, Kitui, Taita Taveta, Narok, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Mombasa, Machakos, Kakamega, Narok, Lamu gave their verdict on Tuesday. 

    Others include Garissa, Makueni, Nyamira, Taita Taveta and Bungoma. The bill has been rejected thus far by Baringo county.

    On Tuesday morning, the bill passed the threshold of 24 counties and now moves to parliament where the final vote will be taken in order to decide if Kenyans will vote on the proposals via a referendum.

    BBI proponents came out in numbers to praise the achievement. Politicians such as Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru lauded the legislators for putting the needs of the people ahead of politics.

    “A hearty congratulations to the Members of Kirinyaga County Assembly for passing the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020- BBI. Kirinyaga! We stand counted at this moment for putting our people’s needs ahead of politics,” Waiguru stated.
