5 Ways to Edit Your Podcast Online for Free

It’s one thing to have an idea for a great podcast, but to actually execute it is another thing entirely. Sure, you can just record yourself and upload the result, but your listeners will appreciate the extra time and care put into a well-edited podcast.

Fortunately, you don’t have to break the bank or download any sketchy software in order to edit your podcasts. In fact, there are plenty of different sites out there that let you edit your podcasts right in your browser for free.

Here are five of the best.

A Screenshot of Podcastle the Free Online Podcaste Editing Tool in Use

First up on this list, we have Podcastle. Podcastle is a free online podcast editing service that you can use to quickly and easily edit your podcasts in no time.

To get started with Podcastle you will need to first sign up, but from there, it’s quite simple to use. There are pop-ups that help you to set up Podcastle in the ideal environment for your needs, and as you go, you’ll find plenty of options to watch tutorials or read helpful tips to help you on your way. Who knows, you may even soon want to learn how to become a podcast editor, yourself.

Podcastle lets you upload already recorded podcasts to edit or record right there in your browser. There’s even a text-to-speech mode if you’d prefer that as well.

Actually editing your audio couldn’t be easier with Podcastle either. You can cut, copy, and trim your audio easily, and there are options to adjust the individual volume, amplification, and panning for each track as well.

Beyond that, there are compressor and equalizer effects that you can use, as well as a variety of different sound effects that are included with Podcastle as well.

Next up, we have GoldWave Infinity. GoldWave is a free program that allows you to edit audio on your PC, and it’s one of the great apps and software to jumpstart your podcast creation journey.

GoldWave Infinity is the in-browser version of the same program. Because of this, you now have access to this program regardless of where you are or what device you’re using to edit your podcast.

GoldWave Infinity isn’t too complicated a program to pick up and use, although its functionality is a little more limited than some of the other options on this list. You can copy, cut, and move audio easily with GoldWave Infinity, and there is a range of effects available for use as well.

The biggest downside with GoldWave Infinity is that there’s no way to edit multiple tracks together. There’s an audio merging tool that will let you merge two audio files together, but that’s far from the same thing.

If you’re looking for something that will let you edit your podcasts in a way that’s completely different from anything else out there, then Type Studio might be worth taking a look at.

While technically this web service is a video editor, Type Studio is somewhat unique in that it is largely text-based. That means that instead of doing your editing on a traditional video timeline, you can instead edit your podcast by editing its text.

Type Studio automatically transcribes any audio that you upload to it. You can upload entire pre-recorded podcasts to Type Studio for editing or record them then and there in your browser.

You can look at your transcription on the left of the page and edit it if there’s anything where the program has tripped up.

The caveat here is that Type Studio is designed with video files in mind. Most of its functionality beyond this auto-transcription service is aimed at adding visuals as you speak, though this works just as well for sound effects, title music, sound bites, and even other audio recordings if you want to get creative.

When you’re finished, you can download the audio directly, and you can even download subtitle and text files as well if you would like.

A Screenshot of Kapwing s Free Online Podcast Editing Tool in Use

Next up on this list comes Kapwing’s free podcast audio editor. Kapwing is a free online service that provides a wide variety of different media editing tools, including an audio editor for mixing and mastering your podcasts.

As far as audio editors go, Kapwing’s user interface is a pretty solid one. Moving audio tracks around feels simple to do, and all the tools that you might want, such as track splitting, volume normalizing, and more are all here.

There are even some pretty useful AI tools that you can use, such as automatic audio cleaning and dynamic smart trimming. There are tons of great AI tools for podcasters out there, but these ones are unfortunately limited to premium accounts only, however.

The biggest downside with Kapwing is that it isn’t just an audio editor. This means that there are loads of options here to add visual effects, images, and text. For a podcast, these aren’t particularly useful, though they are easy to avoid.

A Screenshot of Auphonic s Free Online Podcast Editing Tool in Use

Finally, we have Auphonic. If you don’t know the first thing about editing podcasts and don’t have the time or desire to learn, then Auphonic is a great online service that can solve this problem.

Unlike other entries on this list, Auphonic isn’t technically an audio editor. Instead, what Auphonic does is allow you to record or upload your files directly to the website, where the service will algorithmically master your audio.

These algorithms include noise reduction, adaptive leveling, audio normalization, and more. Auphonic includes plenty of settings that you can tweak here if you so wish, but the default values that it uses are fine.

On top of this, Auphonic also lets you automatically add intros and outros, extra metadata, chapter marks, speech recognition, and more. You can even save your settings as a template for use with multiple episodes.

The downside here is that you only get two hours of Auphonic’s services for free every week, but if you want more, you can always subscribe to one of their premium models.

Get More Our Your Podcast Than Ever Before

As you can see, there’s a whole lot that you can do just with online tools to edit your podcasts. Whether you’re just starting out and wanting to make the best podcast that you can, or if you’ve already made several episodes and are looking to take things to the next level, there’s a tool out there for you.
