adidas release Champions League ball for the 2021/22 season

adidas have unveiled the ball that will be used in this season’s Champions League group stages.

The new ball is called ‘Pyrostorm’ and features the usual iconic design of stars throughout with the adidas and Champions League logos in between.

The stars are coloured in vibrant shades of red, pink, yellow and white, though the sportswear giants are expected to release a new ball for the knockout stages of the 2021/22 edition of Europe’s premier club competition as has become customary.

Their latest offering is the first time we’ve seen a white ball used in the Champions League for a number of seasons now, with the 2020/21 ball predominantly silver with white stars, while we’ve also seen red, blue and purple designs in recent years.

This season’s Champions League is already well underway with preliminary rounds taking place in late June before the first qualifying round kicked off on July 6.

The second qualifying round is scheduled to take place in less than a week’s time with dethroned Scottish Premiership champions Celtic facing Danish outfit Midtjylland on July 20 before the second leg eight days later.

Once the second qualifying round is completed there’ll be a draw for the final round before the group stages kick off.

Celtic will be hoping to join Rangers in the third qualifying round with Steven Gerrard’s side not required to take part in the second round of qualifying due to their status as champions of Scotland.

If both Scottish Premiership sides can safely navigate their way through qualifying they’ll join Premier League outfits Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea in the 2021/22 Champions League group stage.

The draw for this season’s group stage will take place on August 26 meaning we’ve got just over a month to wait to see who’ll be pitted against who.
