Anti-Daesh coalition says attacks against Iraq undermine rule of law

A spokesman for the US-led international coalition fighting Daesh in Iraq, Colonel Wayne Marotto, yesterday warned that attacks against the Iraqi federal government, the Kurdistan region, and the coalition forces “undermine the rule of law” in the country, Anadolu news agency reported.

“Each attack against the GoI [Government of Iraq], KRI [Kurdish Regional Government] and the Coalition undermines the authority of Iraqi institutions, the rule of law and Iraqi National sovereignty,” Colonel Marotto said on Twitter.

Marotto was commenting on the missile attacks that targeted the Balad Air Base in northern Iraq and Baghdad International Airport the day before. The Balad Air Base hosts US troops. No casualties were reported in either attack and no party has claimed responsibility.

Over the past few months, military bases that host US forces in Iraq and the American embassy in Baghdad have come under missile attack by militia groups who oppose their presence in the country.
