The South Coast community was still reeling after the body of their beloved Reverend, Liezel de Jager, was found early on Wednesday morning.

The 38-year-old De Jager was reportedly found by her husband, Werner, just after 7 am on Wednesday with strangle marks around her neck.

It is believed De Jager went jogging with a group of women before she returned home. According to reports, Werner was inside the house getting their two daughters, Ila and Lané.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, they received a complaint of murder on Dan Pienaar Road at Athlone Park in Amanzimtoti.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police found a 38-year-old woman victim lying on the ground inside her yard with strangulation marks on her neck.

“None of her possessions were taken. A case of murder has been opened at Amanzimtoti SAPS for investigation.”

Meanwhile, the NG Church South Coast posted the following on their Facebook Page:

It is with the saddest hearts and sorrow that must, unfortunately, inform you that Rev. Liezel passed away this morning. We ask that you please keep Werner, the children, and the rest of the family in your prayers through this terribly difficult time. We also want to ask that you respect their privacy and not go to the parsonage.

The church and the community planned a tribute to Rev. Liezel.

“We would like to invite congregation members to come and lay flowers or a cherry on the church tower tonight.
