The Chairman of Shiroro local government area, Suleiman Dauda Chukuba has alleged that Boko Haram has taken charge of the council area and equipping the people to fight against the government.

It would be recalled that earlier this year, the state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello raised an alarm that the members of the sect had hoisted their flag in some communities in Shiroro LG of the state.

Chukuba made the disclosure while speaking to Journalists on the situation of local governments in Minna, Chukumba said currently, the Boko Haram members that have taken charge in most of the communities

According to him, over 500 communities in the eight wards that make up Shiroro LG have been overtaken by the Boko Haram and Bandits.

“As it is today, Shiroro has a lot of Boko Haram, I have proof of this as the Chairman. I can tell you that Shiroro is not only dealing with the issue of banditry,” the chairman revealed.

Chukuba also disclosed that Boko Haram has declared to the people that they do not want conventional primary and secondary schools in the area but prefer Islamic schools.

“They have told the people that they do not want primary or secondary schools in the communities and that they only want to see Islamic schools. They have been trying to incorporate and recruit the residents of the communities to become their members telling them that they will give them arms and assist them in fighting the government.”

He further warned that the preachings of the sect are against the government and they have been talking to the people of the LG to be part of their activities.

“The chairman insisted, “The entire wards are affected by banditry and Boko Haram insurgents. 500 communities in the eight wards are affected. The wards include Manta, Gurmana, Bassa-Kokki, Allawa, Kurebe, Kushaka, Kwati, Chukumba and Galadima Kogo”

“We are appealing to the federal government to bring in more security personnel to help us disband and dislodge the Boko Haram that had already made Shiroro local government area their home”.
