We’ve all been there: You post something on Instagram, only to realize you’re getting too much of a reaction from one person. While you can remove the post altogether, this isn’t always the best solution.
If you’re looking for a more subtle way to keep someone from seeing your posts, there are some things you can do.
Can You Hide a Post From Someone on Instagram?
Instagram does not have a native feature that lets you hide specific posts from certain people on your feed. This means that anyone who follows you can see all your posts.
However, this does not mean that you have no options at all. There are some workarounds that you can use to achieve a similar effect.
Workaround for Hiding Posts on Instagram
Here are some methods you can use to hide a post from someone on Instagram:
1. Remove the Follower and Switch to a Private Account
One of the simplest ways to hide your posts from someone on Instagram is to remove them as a follower and switch your account to private. This way, they will not be able to see any of your posts unless they request to follow you again and you accept them.
This method restricts your entire account’s visibility, not just specific posts.
To remove a follower on Instagram, go to your profile and tap on Followers. Then, find the person you want to remove and tap the Remove button.
To switch your Instagram account to private, go to your profile and tap on the menu icon in the top right corner. Then, tap on Settings and Privacy. Tap on Account privacy under Who can see your content and switch it to Private account.
2. Archive the Post
Another option is to archive the post you want to hide. Archiving keeps the post saved on your account but removes it from public view. Archived posts are only visible to you and can be restored to your profile at any time.
To archive a post, go to your profile and tap on the post you want to hide. Then, tap on the three dots in the top right corner and select Archive.
To access your Instagram archive, go to your profile and tap on the menu icon in the top right corner. Then, tap on Archive and choose Post archive. You can see all your archived posts here and tap on any of them to restore them.
3. Share the Post on a Close Friends Story Instead
If the post you want to hide is a Story, you can use the Close Friends feature on Instagram to share it with only a select group of people. This way, you can exclude anyone you don’t want to see your Story from your Close Friends list.
To create a Close Friends list, go to your profile and tap on the menu icon in the top right corner. Then, tap on Close Friends and add or remove people as you wish.
To share a Story with only your Close Friends, create a Story as usual and tap on Close Friends before sharing it.
4. Block the User
The last resort for hiding posts from someone on Instagram is blocking them. This will prevent them from seeing any of your posts or stories, as well as contacting you or finding you on Instagram. However, this also means that you will not be able to see their posts or stories either.
To block someone on Instagram, go to their profile and tap on the three dots in the top right corner. Then, tap on Block and confirm your choice.
Choosing the Right Workaround for You
The right workaround for hiding posts from someone on Instagram depends on your needs. If you want to hide a single post, archiving it is the best option.
But if you want to hide all your posts from someone, removing them as a follower or blocking them may be the better choice. Whichever you choose, the steps above should make it easy.
