The latest COVID-19 figures released by Health Minister Joe Phaala and the Department of Health on Tuesday evening report that cases have increased by 3 699 in the last 24-hours, meaning that the total number of infections that have been accumulatively reported since March 2020 has risen to 2 864 534.

Sadly, over the last 24-hours alone, a further 300 people have died from COVID-19, meaning that a total of 85 302 people have succumbed to the virus since the first death in March 2020. 

A total of 2 688 692 have recovered having tested positive for COVID-19, representing a recovery rate of 93.9%.

Provincial COVID-19 case breakdown Tuesday 14 September

The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded in each province over the last 24-hours on Tuesday 14 September:

  • Eastern Cape – 663 new cases;
  • Free State – 508 new cases;
  • Gauteng – 331 new cases; 
  • KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) – 932 new cases;
  • Limpopo – 48 new cases; 
  • Mpumalanga – 134 cases;
  • North West – 169 new cases; 
  • Northern Cape – 281 new cases;
  • Western Cape – 663 cases; and
  • Unallocated –  0 cases, 0 deaths.

Latest vaccine figures:  

A total of 15 188 787 people have received either the Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson jab in South Africa to date, with 265 833 vaccines having been administered to members of the South African public on Tuesday 14 September.
