    Companies to cover vaccine cost for staff & family

    NEW DELHI: With the Covid vaccination opening for the general public, SBI, Accenture, Infosys, TCS and RPG Group have announced mass inoculation for their employees.
    Indian Banks Association, the umbrella body of all banks, has issued an advisory for its member banks to consider bearing the cost of vaccination to its employees.
    An internal communication of SBI issued on Wednesday said: “While the IBA has taken up with the government for inclusion of bank employees in the priority list for vaccination, till such time the approval is received, they have advised all banks to reimburse the cost of vaccination (as notified by the government) to all employees and their dependent members on production of receipt.” It will bear the expenses of vaccination of its 2.5 lakh employees.
    Accenture has said it will cover the cost for employees and their dependents covered under its medical benefits programme. Accenture said it has continued to monitor the guidance of external experts, including international health organisations and local health authorities.
    “We strongly support the scientific and public health advice that encourages vaccination,” Accenture said on Wednesday. Accenture has over 2 lakh employees in India.
    Rekha M Menon, chairperson and senior MD at Accenture in India, tweeted, “At Accenture, the health & safety of our people matter most. We will cover the cost of the Covid-19 vaccine, for our people and their dependents who are covered under our medical benefits program.”
    Infosys COO U B Pravin Rao said it was looking to partner healthcare providers to vaccinate employees and their immediate families as eligible under the guidelines given by the government of India and according to approved procedures and timelines.
    “Infosys will cover the vaccination cost for the employee and immediate family as part of our focus on health and wellness,” he said. Infosys employs nearly 2.4 lakh persons.
    RPG Group too has said it was working out modalities to administer the vaccine to its nearly 25,000 employees. S Venkatesh, group president — HR of the group, said: “At present, we are awaiting policy clarity on vaccine allocation to private sector employees.”
    A spokersperson for TCS said, “Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have supported our associates and their families. This included Covid testing and treatment. This will continue in the vaccination phase as well.”
