If you’re into manga, you probably have a to-read list that’s about a mile long. Fortunately, the VIZ Manga app lets you read straight from your smartphone, allowing you to spend less time browsing and more time reading. We’ll tell you all about the app and show you how to use it.
What Is the VIZ Manga App?
VIZ Media, one of the leading publishers of English manga, has compiled its works into a convenient app. While there are some great apps for reading comics on a PC, nothing beats the comfort of reading on your phone.
With the VIZ Manga app, not only can you read the first few chapters of certain manga for free, you can read the most recent chapters of your favorite series.
The app has popular works like “Komi Can’t Communicate” and “Inuyasha,” both with hundreds of published chapters for your reading pleasure. You can also find several recipe and craft books, such as “Amigurumi Sweets” and “Disney Bento: Easy Recipes for Delicious Sushi.”
In addition, in May 2023, the platform announced in a blog post that you can now subscribe to VIZ Manga’s Premier Library for $1.99/month, which gives you access to a good chunk of manga on the app. You can try the subscription service for seven days to see if you like it. However, it’s important to note that not every manga series is available with a subscription.
“Demon Slayer,” “BEASTARS,” “Naruto,” and other popular series must be purchased per volume at roughly $6.99 a pop. We’ll show you how to tell which series can be read with a subscription and which series must be purchased later on in the article. If manga isn’t in your budget, you can stick to the free version of the app or try a site for reading manga online.
At $1.99/month, VIZ Manga’s subscription is a bargain. However, some manga must be purchased per volume, so double-check before subscribing.
It’s important to note that most manga sites and apps require a subscription service. Many sites that allow you to read multiple volumes for free are illegal hosting sites and can put your computer at risk. Use caution when browsing for manga or stick to an app like VIZ Manga.
How to Use the VIZ Manga App
Before you can get started, you’ll need to download the app. So, head to your app store and search “VIZ” to download it. You can start reading right away, but it’s a good idea to create an account so you can bookmark your favorites and keep track of any purchases.
Follow the prompt from VIZ Manga to log in or create an account. Alternatively, you can tap the gear icon labeled Account at the bottom of the screen. You can browse featured manga by tapping the Home icon. To see all the manga available alphabetically, tap the magnifying glass in the top-right corner and scroll down from there.
When browsing, you will see manga with “volumes” listed, manga with “chapters,” and manga with both. If a manga lists only “volumes,” this means that each manga must be purchased separately before reading. You can read manga with “chapters” listed in full with a Premier Library subscription.
You can keep up to 100 chapters on your phone at any given time. Chapters will be automatically removed after seven days. If you want to remove chapters manually to free up space on your device, tap Account and then Manage Downloads.
