“The Palestinian cause was, and remains, our first priority,” Safadi told representatives at the 156th session of the Arab League Council.

He added that the expansion in building the illegal Israeli settlements, land confiscation and displacement of Palestinians from their homes were “threatening the chances of reaching peace.”

“The region will remain captive to the conflict until the Israeli occupation ends it, and the Palestinian people obtain all their rights on the basis of the two-state solution, and in accordance with international resolutions,” Safadi reiterated.

The Jordanian official called for “respecting the historical and legal situation in the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque,” noting that violating its sanctities was “provoking hundreds of millions of Muslims and Christians around the world.”

Safadi stressed on the “need to respect the rights of Jerusalemites in Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan in their homes,” adding that displacing Palestinians would not be “accepted”.
