Reports have linked Kaizer Chiefs with defenders Taariq Fielies and Buhle Mkhwanazi.
Kaizer Chiefs transfer wishlist
Hunt is known to admire the talents of Cape Town City defender Fielies, while Mkwanazi is unsettled with TTM, who have struggled to hold onto players due to persistent cash-flow issues.
A report from Kickoff.com claims that a source close to Kaizer Chiefs has confirmed the club’s interest in the defenders.
Fielies is believed to be the first choice among the two but Kaizer Chiefs may baulk at his asking price.
“Gavin Hunt is a big fan of Taariq Fielies. Chiefs are interested. The only challenge they might have is John Comitis’ asking fee,” the source said.
“Buhle Mkhwanazi is still trying to sort out his issues with TTM and could join Chiefs next season even though there is overseas interest.”
Mkhwanazi was one of a handful of Bidvest Wits players who opted to remain with TTM after the Limpopo club bought their franchise, but is said to be keen on a move and would relish being reunited with Gavin Hunt.
Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be very close to securing the services of Swallows defensive stalwart Njabulo Ngcobo as well a striker Ruzaigh Gamildien.
Amakhosi are set for a massive clearout which could see the club look to slash their wage bill in order to allow them to bring in fresh talent.
The top earners in the Kaizer Chiefs squad have been disappointing this term, and it is not beyond the realm of possibility that three or four of the club’s highest-paid players might be shown the door at the end of the season.
With moves also lined up for former Bidvest Wits stars Sifiso Hlanti (Swallows) and Phathutshedzo Nange (Stellies), the club will need to make room in the squad for new faces and also reduce their wage bill.
Kaizer Chiefs have already released Siphelele Ntshangase while Lebogang Manyama, Bernard Parker and Willard Katsande are names that keep coming up when releases are mentioned.
