Malusi Gigaba makes desperate bid to block ex Norma’s state capture evidence

Malusi Gigaba has launched a dramatic appeal with the State Capture Inquiry, as he scrambles to stop his estranged wife Norma Mngoma from telling all. She’s due to give evidence to the Commission, but if her ex has anything to do with it, the scale of information that is made public will be dramatically limited.

Norma vs Malusi – what has Gigaba asked for?

Gigaba has argued that there will be ‘too many personal details’ in Norma’s evidence. DCJ Zondo could therefore rule that some of her testimony must be kept under wraps. This has lead to accusations that the political figure is trying to suppress key information related to his work with the Guptas and involvement with State Capture.

    • – Gigaba has asked the commission to rule that Mngoma’s affidavit is inadmissible.
    • – If that fails, he will then attempt to have Norma’s testimony shared behind closed doors.
    • – The former minister’s application to the Commission also requests her affidavit is not made public.
    • – If successful, we could also end up with a situation where Malusi Gigaba privately cross-examines Norma Mngoma
    • – The State Capture Inquiry will have to decide if the request can be met, based on the grounds of ‘confidentiality’.
    • – The final say rests with Raymond Zondo – who could end up only retracting certain parts of the affidavit.

State capture evidence ‘could be suppressed

To quote Taylor Swift, Malusi Gigaba and Norma Mngoma are ‘never, ever, ever getting back together’. The irreconciable differences between the pair run deep, and those divisions were widened during a dramatic court case that culminated earlier this year. Charges of ‘malicious property damage’, filed by MG against his then-partner, were eventually dropped.

However, Gigaba was alleged to have ‘abused his influence’ by getting the Hawks involved in a domestic dispute. Mngoma and her legal team are still fighting against this perceived injustice, but Norma will be hoping her biggest opportunity to dish the dirt won’t be stifled by Malusi’s last-ditch bid to control the damage.
