In a statement, Matiang’i said that since the public holiday falls on Sunday, October 10, the celebration will be observed on Monday in accordance with the Public Holidays Act.
The day was traditionally marked as Moi Day until 2003 when President Mwai Kibaki’s administration stopped marking the holiday.
The 2010 constitution later dropped Moi Day as a national holiday. However, in 2017, the High Court ruled October 10, remained a holiday unless the Public Holidays Act was repealed.
Matiang’i later noted that the day would be observed as Huduma Day.
