While the country was still gobsmacked over the shaky R15m Enoch Mgijima stadium in the Eastern Cape, nobody really anticipated the dramatic argument it would draw from DJ Shimza and Mmusi Maimane on Tuesday.

The former DA leader and popular DJ started an ugly fight to throw blows at each other about engineering knowledge, financial experience, career moves, tenders, and business ventures.

Following the heated debate, South Africans had each other in stitches.

Judging from the reactions and jokes on Shimza, it was apparent that Maimane had won.

“Dear Shimza. This is Mmusi Maimane you can never win against him, he’s been to ‘Helen Back,’” said one popular reaction.

The twar started when Shimza’s girlfriend, Athi Geleba, who works for the presidency’s online communications, responded to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy president Floyd Shivambu’s sharing of the controversial stadium: “An ANC Municipality in the Eastern Cape, Enoch Mgijima has opened what they call a stadium.”

Athi tried to explain all the hidden costs behind the project: “Palisade fencing. Rock blasting. Earthworks. Layer works. Rugby & soccer field. Athletics track. Ablution facilities. Changerooms. Borehole. Water reticulation installation. Sewer system. Sceptic tank.”

Shimza then responded with “Aowa” and laughing emojis, before Maimane replied to him saying “Even Shimza can’t spin these turntables.”

And that set the cat amongst the pigeons.

The politician and DJ went right into it. Shimza brought up Maimane’s failed career with the DA, before the statesman hit back to reveal how Shimza’s restaurant once earned a tender from the Department of Tourism.

After Shimza replied with an explanation, Mmusi responded by exposing Shimza’s strangely named liquor spot ‘Trust Me Tarven’ before closing the twar with an L sign.

“I am done here. Please don’t forget to collect your property,” the former DA leader concluded.
