Dennis Cheruiyot is a form two student at RCA Kiplombe Secondary School, Turbo Constituency in Uasin Gishu County is not only the games captain but also enjoys playing volleyball, athletics and handball as part of his co-curricular activities.
Speaking to Muhabarishaji.com, his teacher Mr Henry Cheruiyot, revealed that Dennis usually runs every morning to school and academically, he is an average student.
Drawing inspiration from iconic athletes such as Kipchoge Keino, Dennis also aspires to represent Kenya in international athletics competitions one day.
Hailing from Greenfield village which is approximately 4 km from his school, his teacher stated that his student has a challenge in paying school fees. His aunt is the one who pays his fees from time to time.
“When the principal saw the video, he was very delighted and happy for Dennis,” stated Henry
Usain Gishu county popularly knowns as the home of champions has for decades won accolades for producing some of the most distinguished athletes in the world.
As a result, the county and its environs have witnessed tremendous economic growth on account of large investments injected by the elite runners.
“The economy of this town has always been dependent on farming. However, in recent years we have seen investments from athletes compete with agricultural revenues,” said Philip Kemboi, an official at Uasin Gishu County located at the heart of the North Rift region.
“The town is now attractive to investors thanks to the new amenities and better infrastructure,” he added.
