Meanwhile, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the incident where a police officer accidentally shot and injured a fellow cattle wrangler instead of a cow.

THE COW WAS REPORTEDLY VIOLENT AND STUBBORN

Ipid spokesperson Grace Langa said a case of discharge of a firearm is being investigated.

“It is alleged that in the afternoon of Friday, 24 September 2021 at the Makitsa Village in Venda Limpopo, a group of three men were in a cattle kraal trying to slaughter a cow. The cow was reported to be violent and stubborn.”

She said it is further alleged that the 58-year-old warrant officer from Tchilwavhusi Police Station took out his service pistol and shot it in the direction of the cow with the intention to shoot it the cow.

“The bullet missed the cow and hit at the 38-year-old man who was with them in the cattle kraal.”
