US Open Cup round-of-16 draw groups set: Nashville, LAFC among favorites

The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup has reached the round-of-16 stage with the big prize now moving temptingly into view

The last-32 stage had its fair share of twists and turns with Atlanta United crashing out 3-2 in extra-time away at Nashville SC despite taking a 2-0 lead inside 30 minutes. The New England Revolution and Charlotte FC both picked up 5-1 wins against FC Cincinnati and Richmond Kickers, respectively, while the likes of Orlando City, New York Red Bulls, Sporting KC, and LAFC won all-MLS ties.

With only Minnesota United and Colorado Rapids’ clash to complete after a lengthy weather delay forced the rest of the match to be pushed to Thursday (scores at 1-1), the groups for the round-of-16 draw have been set.

The likes of LAFC, NYCFC, and Nashville will now undoubtedly be among the favorites to win the competition. But there is still USL representation even this deep into the tournament with Union Omaha, Sacramento Republic, and Louisville City all making it through the previous round.

Here are the groups for the US Open Cup round-of-16 draw, which will be held at 8:30pm ET on Thursday:
